When Hasbro launched this Nerf elite product, it was rumoured to be one of the better engineered and highly modifiable product of the series. The successor to the successful stampede ECS, the Rapidstrike CS-18 had few amazing upgrades. It was far less complicated, had a better consistency and due to the improved gearbox, the darts went off quickly and the range impressed us a lot. It is an extremely popular model, and the reason for such popularity is that model can be easily modified. You can get burst firing to power packed voltage batteries, better motor etcetera. If you are one of those who likes to make some changes, Rapidstrike CS-18 is the ideal gun for you. But how does it hold as a package, well we review various aspects for you.
How does the design hold up?
So when we got this model, we were unimpressed by the packaging. Hasbro could have done a much better job with that, but that’s the only complaint we had with the design.
It is by the far the coolest design combined with some dope technicalities. Out of the box you get three primary strap points, five tac rails, a beautiful transparent dart clip which can hold as many as 18 darts, riffled barrel and tray to hold the batteries which acts as the front half of the fore grip, when it is doubled. This model uses the tested blue & orange colour scheme with occasional greys. The Rapidstrike branding tends to protrude a little bit. The design for us, was more than satisfactory.
But do the ergonomics match up with the design? Yes they do in a brilliant way. The hefty batteries can be a problem for some but they weight issues are compensated because you will be using your secondary hand to hold the fore grip while your main hand can do all the triggering work. The fore grip provides excellent support and overall the Rapidstrike CS-18 is very good to hold. Also we have no issues with plastic and the material is by far the best you can find. Good job Hasbro!
Firstly using this model is child’s play. If you want to get the internal motors running simply push the acceleration trigger and then hit the firing trigger.
You can fire shots in two different ways. You can fire single shots as well as in short bursts. How to use it, is a more of a personal choice, but we had way more fun while shooting in bursts. This model has some power hungry motors, due to which you need to use the “C” cell batteries.
If you like to shoot in auto mode, you can expect a range close to 60 feet, while shooting in an arc. However if you let the flywheels hit their maximum speed your dart will travel close to the advertised 75 feet distance. We were unable to reach this mark, but it was just shy of 2 feet.
The next thing that’s impressive is the dart speed. It can travel with an unbelievable velocity of 68 feet per second. It is not high as we got in Nerf N-strike Elite Retaliator but it was very close to it. This high speed enables the darts to cover a little more distance.
The thing that left us a little unimpressed was the rate-of-fire. Which is unfortunate, because everything else with this model is top notch. You will be able to completely pull out the drum in close to 7 seconds. Hasbro, could have done a better job at this.
The Rapidstrike CS-18 did jam once or twice, but we hold the poor dart quality responsible for this. If you face such issues, you can fix that by using slightly powerful batteries.
Overall, we give thumbs up to the performance of this model.
Is it worth the price?
The Rapidstrike CS-18 comes at a retail price of 39$. But since this model came out last year you can easily get it for 30$. For this price, it is a steal. The reason we are saying that is because of the modification capabilities of this model. To add to that you get solid performance and a decent design with premium build. So if you get this model for around 35$, your fun quotient is set to rise.
The Final Verdict!
Hasbro has continued its trend of innovation with this model. It is a dream come true for a modder but it is quite impressive in its stock form too. It is a clear flagship device. You get a premium feel at an impressive price and we would give it 8.7 stars out of 10.==> Click Here to Avail Today’s Discount on the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rapidstrike CS-18
